CALGARY (660 NEWS) — One man has been taken into custody after being removed from a house in the middle of a high-risk police call in the city’s southwest on Sunday.

There was a large police presence in the southwest community of Shawnessy Sunday afternoon.

Calgary Police tweeted that they were dealing with a high-risk call and the situation is currently contained, however, Calgarians were asked to avoid the area.

Derek Brade with CityNews was at the scene and says police surrounding a home had their weapons drawn.

“They’re using their speaker system on one of the tactical trucks and asking the individual to get out of his house,” said Brade. “They’re considering him armed and dangerous — is the commands they are giving.”

As police endure periodic bouts of hail and rain, they are using flashbangs to persuade the man to come out. No one else is inside the home and they don’t believe he is in possession of a weapon.

Police say domestic related charges are pending against the man.

Brade also confirmed that parts of Shawinigan Road were closed off at the time of the incident.
