Calgary sets one-day rainfall record

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – It was a record-setting Friday for rainfall in Calgary.

The downpour bringing with it, flooding, across multiple parts of the city. Areas affected were mostly in the North and Southwest.

According to Environment Canada, Calgary broke the record for the most rain in a 24 hour period.

Meteorologist Robyn Dick explained just how much precipitation the city received.

“Calgary did set a record for the most amount of precipitation in one day,” said Dick. “Friday at 6pm and the 24 hours prior to that, Calgary did get 53.9 millimetres.”

While the rain keeps coming as we approach the end of June, Environment Canada says it’s just above normal for the month of June with 106.4 milimetres of precipitation.
