Airport investigating security breach on airfield

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A security breach at the Calgary International Airport Sunday has been secured.

The Calgary Airport Authority is now investigating the cause and details of the incident.

Reid Feist, media relations manager for YYC International, told 660 NEWS in a statement today that the breach was reported around noon Sunday.

The Calgary Airport Authority was informed that the perimeter gate on the southwest corner of the airfield was open and unattended.

In the statement, Feist said: “The security of our airport is our first priority, and we are taking this incident very seriously. We do not believe any unauthorized individuals accessed the airfield.”

He adds that the incident has been reported to Transport Canada and more security has been added.

Calgarians are being reminded to report any suspicious activity like this to the 24-hour Integrated Operations Centre at 403-735-1300.
