Councillor Ray Jones admitted to hospital

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Calgary’s longest-serving city councillor is currently battling health issues.

Ward 10’s Ray Jones, who has been serving on council since 1993, revealed on Twitter that he was admitted to hospital on Saturday night.

Jones has been absent from several recent meetings, including Monday’s meeting of council.

He said there is no timetable for his return but vows to be back in the council chambers.

In the meantime, staff will continue to represent the residents in his ward.

There have been other messages of support offered to Jones, with Mayor Naheed Nenshi also issuing a brief remark at City Hall.

“I’ve spoken with his wife, and certainly we wish him the best. We know that he will be back it representing the people of northeast Calgary very soon,” said Nenshi.
