CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Scotiabank has donated $3.1 million to Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada.

Big Brothers Big Sisters specializes in one on one mentorship for more than 40,000 kids around the country.

“This is a huge gift for Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across the country,” said Karen Orser, CEO of BBBS Calgary. “To me, what’s so exciting about it, is the profile that mentoring will be able to get, and the awareness we will be able to raise across the country.”

A large amount of the funding will be used for recruitment who Orser says is at a great need.

“In Calgary, our particular need is around recruitment, and we have hundreds of kids on our waitlist and we’re really just urgently reaching out to the community and saying ‘If you’ve ever thought about mentoring, now is a good time’,” Orser added.

All signing up to be a mentor takes is calling the agency and setting up the capacity you are available.
