Wife of US Rep. Hunter to change plea in corruption case

SAN DIEGO — U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter’s wife is planning to change her not-guilty plea after the couple was charged with using more than $250,000 in campaign funds on vacations and other expenses.
Margaret Hunter, who worked as the California Republican’s campaign manager, is scheduled to appear in federal court Thursday to change her plea.
The couple pleaded not guilty last year after a grand jury indicted them on charges of using campaign cash on trips to Italy and Hawaii, golf outings, school tuition and theatre tickets.
They’re also accused of trying to conceal the illegal spending in federal documents.
Her lawyers couldn’t be immediately reached for comment.
The congressman has said his wife handled his finances. He went on to win re-election in the 50th District in San Diego and Riverside counties.
