CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A Calgary man and his cat are recovering at home after a run in with a large coyote in the northwest community of Kincora.

Allan Moore saved his family’s cat from the animal on Monday when he heard his son shouting outside that a coyote had grabbed the cat and ran off.

That’s when he jumped into action and went after the coyote chasing it down Shaganappi Trail.

The animal left Moore with some deep cuts on his arms and leg but says his cat was also hurt quite badly as well.

“Its pupils were the size of the actual eye, yeah, it was just black,” said Moore who added the cat also suffered puncture wounds as well.

Moore believes that a lack of food is to blame, as two red-tailed hawks have been roaming the neighbourhood recently.

“They’ve been around for two weeks now, taking all the coyote’s food, so I think it’s making them desperate,” said Moore.

Moore spent the rest of his Monday in hospital being treated for possible rabies.
