“The male has been charged with attempt to commit murder, carrying a weapon for a dangerous purpose, arson, possession of stolen property, possession of Methamphetamine and breach of his recognizance times four,” said Cpl. Slaney.

Crystal Boys is with Airdrie POWER, a group who has been advocating for a permanent women’s shelter in the city.

She said this case once again highlights the need for this type of facility.

“We’re very saddened that we weren’t able to be open to help her, but we looking forward to opening soon to help more women and children in our community so that they don’t have to endure such acts of violence as this one.”

Boys said that Airdrie has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the entire country.

Plans to build a shelter in the city were delayed due to construction issues but is hopeful it will open by the end of the summer.

The man remains in custody and will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on June 20.
