CALGARY (CP) – Calgary’s Cavalry FC is the first Canadian Premier League club through to the third round of the Canadian Championship thanks to a 2-1 win Tuesday over Hamilton’s Forge FC.

Calgary and Hamilton tied 1-1 in the first leg June 4. So, Cavalry FC win the two-leg series on aggregate 3-2.

Cavalry FC will now meet Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps in the 3rd round of the tournament to determine Canada’s representative in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Sergio Camargo pushed Calgary ahead 2-1 in the 51st minute Tuesday at Spruce Meadows.

Camargo finished a feed from Nico Pasquotti, redirecting the ball between Forge keeper Triston Henry and his left post.

The Cavalry will host the Whitecaps for the first leg on July 10 with Leg 2 set for B.C. Place on July 24.

And as both teams prepare for the Round 3 match, the Whitecaps took to Twitter to show they’re ready for their next opponent.
