‘One of the good ones’: Friends of domestic violence victim mourn

CALGARY — Documents show that a Calgary house where there was a deadly explosion over the weekend was owned by a couple going through a divorce.

Police responded to reports of an explosion on Saturday afternoon and found two people dead and one seriously injured at the suburban home in the city’s northwest.

Although police have not released the identities of the two people who died, friends of Dorsa Dehdari have since confirmed that she was one of the victims in what police call a domestic-related incident. Police also say they are not looking for any suspects.

On the day of the explosion and just hours before police were called to the home on Kincora Drive, Dorsa sent out a tweet which a friend of hers translated from Farsi to English for 660 NEWS and it roughly says

“I wish from the bottom of my heart that my dad dies, so he wouldn’t make us suffer so much. It’s like I can’t stand it anymore.”

Friends say that her relationship was often strained with her father.

In conversation with other local media outlets, other friends confirmed that her father also died in the incident, while her younger sister was hurt. It’s believed that her 15-year-old sister is in the hospital with fire-related injuries that are serious and potentially life-threatening.

According to her Facebook profile, Dorsa was studying media and communication at the University of Calgary.

The land title for the house lists the owners as Heidar and Leila Dehdari and says they have lived there since 2013.

Court records show Leila Dehdari filed for divorce last month from her husband of 27 years.

The statement of claim for divorce and division of matrimonial property mentions two children from the marriage: 22-year-old Dorsa Dehdari and 15-year-old Dorna Dehdari.
