CALGARY (660 NEWS) – One person was taken to hospital after a fire in a Beltline apartment building.

The blaze started around 12:30 a.m., near 16 Ave and 14 Street SW and Battalion Chief Stu Laird said the fire started on the top floor.

“Firefighters use handlines from the exterior ground level to knock back the fire and contain the flames before making entry to the structure.”

Laird said crews were able to contain the fire to the single apartment unit, but unfortunately, many residents remain displaced.

“The remaining 10 residents of the complex will be relocated by the property manager due to smoke and water damage.”

One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
