B.C. man starts petition against paid hospital parking

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – Fed up with paying for parking at Langley Memorial Hospital and a planned increase in those charges, a local man has started a petition.

Gary Hee wants to get 2,500 signatures and is already past the halfway mark. He wants patients to get four hours of free parking if they need to visit the hospital.

“The fact that these people have to pay a higher cost for a parking space at the emergency department on a particular emergency night is just too much stress for that patient,” he says. “That patient’s health comes first.”

Hee says he’s felt the financial stress himself.

“I’ve had that experience, I’ve seen it and I hear it,” he says. “I hear it every time I go out and do my petition work. A word that I would like to say, over the years – the situation is disgusting.”

The petition is directed at the hospital’s board, the two Langley local governments, and he’s also planning to send a copy to the province.
