Homes and vehicles severely damaged in Calgary explosion and fire

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — After receiving numerous 911 calls reporting an explosion and fire Calgary fire crews responded to Arbour Crest Drive N.W.

Crystal Dichoso lives in the area and says she heard an explosion from her window at around 4:20 a.m. Sunday which woke her up.

“And then I went to my bonus room and then the fire already spread to the house, and like it kept on exploding, I think that’s how like the other house caught on fire so then I just called the fire department,” she said.

Battalion Chief Paul Frederick explains what crews were met with when they arrived on the scene.

“Three vehicles and two homes on fire, the homes were evacuated and the fire was quickly knocked down,” he said, but the siding is also melting off of a third home.

So far, Frederick says only one person has been treated for minor injuries.

Jonathan Toma lives in the area as well and says he heard sirens and when he came out from his home he saw flames. He hopes this blaze will serve as a reminder for all Calgarians.

“Check [your] fire monitors to see if they’re working properly,” he said.

There’s no word yet on what caused the fire.
