Fortis has some spring storm preparedness tips

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Spring-like temperatures are on the horizon, and that means thunderstorms can strike at any moment.

It’s important to know what to do in the case you get caught in one.

“If you see a downed power line we ask you always stay a minimum of 10 metres away,” said Kevin Haflebeck with Fortis Alberta. “The ground can become energized within that area, so it’s always important to stay well away.”

You should also contact Fortis to deal with the downed wire at 310-WIRE (9473).

Other tips include staying indoors if you’re able to, if you are in a field, seek shelter in a low lying area away from water.

If you happen to be stopped in your car, make sure you are nowhere near tall trees or power lines.
