Canadians love to say Thank You: study

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – How often do you say ‘thanks’ or ‘thank-you’? Feel free to use it now because it is ‘Thank-You Thursday’!

But are Canadians really as polite as we think we are?

“A team that reviewed Twitter of all places, found that Canadians were more polite than Americans,” says Darin Flynn, Chair of Linguistics at the University of Calgary.

That study was compiled by the University of Waterloo and it showed that words like ‘thank you’, ‘please’ and ‘sorry’ were the most frequent words used by Canadian Twitter users.

What about our neighbours to the south? According to Flynn, some of the top words on American Twitter were explicit phrases or curse words.

Another popular word from Canadian Twitter was coffee.

Flynn says it shows Canadians live up to the stereotypes, and they really don’t mind that.
