CALGARY (660 NEWS) – It’s already causing traffic headaches in Calgary’s southwest and closures along 14 street southwest get even worse this weekend.

The City of Calgary is shutting the intersection at 14 street and 90 avenue for the Easter weekend as part of its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in the area.

Over the next four days, crews will be relocating and re-installing underground utilities.

On Thursday, northbound 14 street will be closed at 90 avenue while eastbound 90th is shut down between 16 and 14 street.

Further disruptions begin on Thursday night as the westbound lanes of 90 avenue will also be closed.

“We had to try different ways because 90th avenue was clogged up, and then we couldn’t get onto 14th street it’s closed and then we tried to get onto 24th street like we spent an hour and a half doing that,” said one listener.

Drivers are encouraged to choose alternate routes for the weekend including Macleod Trail, Southland Drive and Anderson Road.

Flaggers will also be at the scene to help direct pedestrian traffic through the construction zone on April 21.
