Police say speed could be a factor in fatal crash on Peigan Trail

Just after 4pm a crash took place on Piegan Trail.

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A man is dead in Calgary’s southeast after a fatal crash on Peigan Trail at 52nd street.

Calgary Police say they were called to the intersection, just after 4:00 p.m on Wednesday to reports of a crash between a car and an SUV.

Police say the man killed in the crash had passed a semi at a high speed and then slammed into the back of the SUV. He then spun and was struck by another vehicle.

The thirty-year-old man was the only one who died, but EMS says a woman in her early 20s also suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Peigan Trail was shut down between 36 and 52 Streets for several hours.

Police believe speed to be a factor as they continue to investigate.
