Record-setting number of people turn out in advanced polls

Allegations of racism, heated economic and social debate and record numbers of people voting in advance polls. Much like the up and down fortunes of the province over the last few years, Alberta’s provincial election has seen it all. As the ballots are counted, only time will tell if the outcome will finally make Albertans happy again. Jon Muma reports.

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Advanced voting has closed in Alberta, with a record-setting number of people turning out.

Elections Alberta tweeted Saturday night approximately 696,000 Albertans cast their ballot, which shattered the record from four years ago.

Around 461,000 more Albertans cast their ballots in early polls this time around, than in the 2015 election, which saw 235,000 people during advanced polling.

Election day for the 2019 Provincial Election is Tuesday, April 16.
