EDMONTON (660 NEWS) — With help from forces in Dubai, the Federal Serious and Organized Crime North unit has stopped the importation of drugs from Iraq.
The drugs were destined for Edmonton.
The investigation resulted in the seizure of 4.75 kg of opium, and two Edmonton residents were handed drug-trafficking charges.
Klara Biernacki, 26, and Shahriyar Dolat Khah Bachchek, 39, are charged with Importation of Opium and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
“These investigations are quite in depth, and the scope of that will be revealed throughout the courts. What this investigation does highlight is the cooperation of our international partners to combat the illegal drug trade,” said Cpl. Chris Warren with the RCMP’s ‘K’ Division.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Bachchek, while Biernacki is due in court on April 19.
