Rally sends anti-hate message to UCP

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A rally held in front of United Convservative Party headquarters over the supper hour on Thursday called on UCP leader Jason Kenney to denounce anti-Muslim and anti-refugee messages being spread by some of his candidates.

“You probably will see more rallies, we want to see how he responds and depending on that, that’s our next course of action,” said organizer Saima Jamal.

Two UCP candidates have dropped out of the election after past racist remarks made by the candidates came to light.

Kenney was asked about the rally earlier in the day during a news conference.

“So the protest I think you are referring to is part of a NDP astro-turf fake grassroots campaign to get you to send your cameras out there to talk about defamatory NDP attacks against a party that is pro-immigration and pro-diversity,” said Kenney.

Kenney cited his work as immigration minister in his answer, saying he welcomed 1-point-3 million permanent residents during his time as minister.
