Two Canadians die under suspicious circumstances in Florida

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Florida police are investigating the suspicious deaths of two Canadians in Pompano Beach.

Neighbours who checked on a Canadian couple they had not seen in a few days found them dead inside their home in a South Florida mobile home park.

The Sun Sentinel and WPLG report 80-year-old Marc Gagne and his 78-year-old wife Rita Gagne were found dead Friday afternoon.

Pompano Beach, a town just north of Fort Lauderdale, is a popular beach destination.

In a statement, Global Affairs Canada said their thoughts and sympathies are with the loved ones of the couple, but can’t reveal any further information due to the Privacy Act.

A spokesperson told NEWS 1130 that Canadian consular officials in Miami have been in contact with local authorities to gather additional information on the case.

Broward Sheriff’s detectives have released few details but the office is treating the deaths as homicides. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported the Gagnes were from Saint-Come-Liniere, about an hour and a half outside of Quebec City.

Neighbours in the Golf View Estates say the Gagnes split their time between the Pompano Beach area and Canada.

So far no arrests have been made.
