Calgary Hitmen open 2019 playoffs in Lethbridge

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — The post-season begins for the Calgary Hitmen Friday night in southern Alberta.

The opening meeting between Calgary and Lethbridge features familiar foes: the Hitmen and Hurricanes met six times in the regular season. Lethbridge won five of them.

“They are built to go,” Calgary head coach Steve Hamilton told Sportsnet 960 The Fan of his opponents. “They are built to run and gun. They play an up-tempo game, and that means managing your game is essential. If it’s a short rink, turning pucks over is an all-day buffet for their forwards. We can’t be feeding that.”

Calgary is back in post-season play after missing out last year.

The Hitmen enter the opening round series as the third seed in the Central Division with a regular season record of 36-26-5-1. The Hurricanes finished 40-18-5-5.

The first two games of the best-of-seven will be played in Lethbridge, with the series returning to Calgary March 26 and March 28.

You can hear Friday’s tilt on Sportsnet 960 The Fan. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
