Over 5,000 attend 21st annual youth hiring fair

Thousands of young adults from all over the city made their way to The Big Four on Wednesday with hopes of getting a job.

The city hosted their hiring fair for youth aged 15-24, over 5,700 individuals attended this year, up from 1,100 last year.

Eighty employers including heavy hitters like Amazon, Starbucks and Walmart packed the building along with a slew of local businesses, looking to find their next wave of talent.

“They might be looking for a summer job today but could meet some contacts that could lead them to a career opportunity in the future,” said Susan Yuen with the Youth Employment Centre.

Face to face interactions were repeatedly echoed as a top highlight from attendees.

The Youth Hiring Centre is open year-round helping Calgary’s youth with career opportunities and guidance.
