Man taken to hospital after morning house fire in S.E. dies

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A man in his 40s has died following a house fire in Forest Lawn Tuesday morning.

The call came into the Calgary Fire Department around 8:30 a.m., near 44 St. and 26 Ave. S.E.

Spokesperson Carol Henke says once fire crews got inside they discovered a man in the basement.

“They did find an unconscious patient down in the basement that they quickly removed and transferred care to EMS.”

EMS confirmed that the man was taken to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition. He died later that morning.

Henke said that crews were able to thoroughly search the house and thankfully there were no other occupants.

The cause of the fire is unknown and it’s believed the blaze started in the basement.
