Family of six safe after fire in Deer Run

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Six people, including 4 children and the family dog escaped a fire in the southeast early Monday morning.

The Calgary Fire Department rushed to Deer Side Drive in Deer Run just after 3:00 a.m. and saw smoke coming from a two-storey home.

Battalion Chief Alistair Robin describes what happened after crews arrived at the scene.

“There was a haze of smoke, and they quickly determined that there was a working fire in the garage, they entered the garage and were able to confine it to the garage.”

Robin said the smoke alarm went off which alerted the family, allowing them to get out safely.

Fire crews were able to stop the fire in the attached garage from spreading into the home or nearby houses.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
