Lawsuit filed against Calgary Police Service and association

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A Calgary police officer has filed a lawsuit against the service and association, citing systematic sexism, sexual harassment and workplace bullying.

“As the matter is before the courts, I’ve been advised by my counsel that it’s not appropriate to comment on my case specifically,” said Kim Prodaniuk of the National Women in Law Enforcement Association.

The statement of claim was filed on Wednesday in which Prodaniuk says she has been a victim of “outrageous conduct”. The suit depicts numerous examples– many of them in graphic detail– over several years, none of them have been proven in court.

“I have been on the record saying that officers who have been enduring the harassment at the Calgary Police Service have been enduring it for so long that they’re desperate and that it has gotten worse over the years. I stand by that statement,” said Prodaniuk.

The Calgary police says in a statement “we are aware of the lawsuit, however, to respect the civil process we are unable to comment at this time.”

Police Association President Les Kaminski has also issued a statement in it he writes “the Calgary Police Association supports and advocates for our members vigorously, and refutes these claims. We will be filing our statement of defence in short order.”
