CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Calgarians may see more than just bikes utilizing the bike lanes in the downtown core.
The Transit and Transportation Committee is looking at allowing skateboards, scooters and inline skaters on the bike lanes.
The report proposes the changes because scooters, skateboards and inline skates are banned from “centralized traffic zones”, which is much of the downtown core, but people still use these methods of transportation for their commute.
CityNews spoke with a few Calgarians who said they don’t believe it would be the safest change but they’re not sure where these riders should go.
The changes would reduce the risk of individuals being ticketed and encourage more active travel options.
The report is expected to appear as a public hearing item at a council meeting on March 18, 2019.
