Chemical spill reported at local motel

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A scary incident in the northwest on Thursday morning after reports a chemical spill in Motel Village.

Around 9:30 am, the Calgary Fire Department was called to a motel near the Banff Trail LRT station.

According to spokesperson Carol Henke, crews originally didn’t know what the chemical was.

“We took all precautions, evacuated the immediate area,” Henke said. “Our hazardous materials team was called to the scene, they got suited up and went in. They determined that it was a chlorine spill, just under 7 litres.”

Crews were able to quickly contain the spill to the pool mechanical room and no further actions were required.

“They were ready to evacuate should they need for public safety, however that was not necessary. They did contain the spill and are cleaning it up right now.”
