Trump says he’s in no rush to see North Korea give up nukes

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump says he wants to see North Korea eventually give up its nuclear weapons program, but he’s in no rush as long as Kim Jong Un isn’t testing weapons.

Trump told reporters on Tuesday that he has no “pressing time schedule” because U.S. relations with Pyongyang are good going into next week’s summit in Hanoi.

Trump said his second meeting with Kim on Feb. 27 and 28 will be “very exciting,” but did not disclose details of what he hoped would be achieved.

Trump says he discussed the upcoming summit during a phone call earlier in the day with the president of South Korea, and he’ll speak on Wednesday with the prime minister of Japan.
