Body recovered from wreckage of home explosion in Douglas Glen

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary police have confirmed that a body was recovered from a house explosion in Douglas Glen on Sunday.

Sgt. Dwayne Lepchuk declined to say whose remains were found.

Calgary Fire spokeswoman Carol Henke said fire and police investigators were able to enter the destroyed home late Sunday.

She said heavy equipment had to be brought in to slowly and carefully remove debris.

Police have taken over the investigation.

More than 25 people, some several blocks away from the house called 911 to report a loud bang.

Five homes were evacuated following the explosion which happened around 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
