STRATHMORE (660 NEWS) — The first ever Strathmore “Battle of the Badges” will hit the ice this weekend.

Mounties and firefighters from the town will suit up for a benefit hockey game on Sunday night.

“Right now, we’re aiming to have a great fundraising event that brings the community together and raises money for these charities. If it goes off well, is something well received, and raises lots of money for these organizations, then I could see it quite possible that it would continue other years,” said Constable Denzil Morey.

The funds raised will go to the local food bank and Youth and Family Hub.

Morey says they’re also hoping their other emergency service partners — the paramedics and EMT’s — will be there for support, but it would also be good just in case something goes amiss.

The game goes Sunday night at 6:15 p.m. at the Strathmore Family Centre Arena with admission by monetary donation at the door.
