EMS responds to few cold weather calls

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgarians are dealing well with the extreme cold so far, according to EMS.

EMS Public Education Officer Adam Loria said few have needed to be hospitalized since the cold snap began over the weekend.

“We have had approximately two people transported to hospital in that time with fairly minor injuries, cold-related.”

Loria stressed the importance of covering as much skin as possible to prevent frostbite, which can occur in a matter of minutes with a bitter wind chill.

He also said that paramedics are watching out for the city’s homeless.

“They are looking out for the vulnerable population. With these type of temperatures and the weather, we’re not all about bringing people to hospital, if somebody just needs to be relocated to a warmer area or warmer place or a safe place to stay, we’ll definitely assist or be a part of that.”
