Calgary airport prepared for winter weather

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The crazy winter weather is not only affecting road traffic but air travel as YYC braces for a winter storm.

The Calgary Airport Authority said that if you are catching a flight over the weekend, make sure you plan ahead.

In an email sent to 660 NEWS, the airport authority said airside crews are ready to keep runways and taxiways clear and safe for aircraft and that the airlines are ready to de-ice their planes.

As extreme cold and snow is affecting most of Alberta, the airport authority said delays are possible.

According to the WestJet website, advisories are in place at the airports in Edmonton and Grande Prairie.

Spokesperson for the airline Lauren Stewart expects some delays in your travels this weekend.

“We are expecting some cancellations later today (Friday). If anybody is travelling in or out of these areas, I would check the advisories page on WestJet and you can also check to see the status of your flight.”

Stewart said that you can likely expect your plane to be de-iced, which only takes a few minutes before takeoff.
