Notley and Kenney prepare ahead of spring election

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Alberta’s election window is opening, and that has Premier Rachel Notley and rival Jason Kenney honing their attack lines.

By law, the election must be held sometime in March, April or May.

That means Notley can drop the writ starting as early as Friday in order to have voters go to the polls on March 1. That’s not expected to happen.

Nevertheless, Notley was in campaign mode at a rally in Calgary, saying the election is the starkest choice Albertans face in decades.

She added a United Conservative government would see perks delivered to wealthy insiders while families would feel the impact of budget cuts in areas like health and education.

Kenney says Alberta cannot withstand four more years of NDP spending, tax hikes, and regulatory red tape.

He says multibillion-dollar deficits and ballooning debt are unsustainable and punish not only this generation but the next.

Notley has called for a Throne Speech on March 18.
