MP asking House of Commons Speaker to look into Jason Kenney’s expenses

OTTAWA (660 NEWS) — A Liberal MP has written a letter to the Speaker of the House of Commons, Geoff Regan, asking him to look into the expenses of Jason Kenney when he was a federal cabinet minister.

Over the weekend, lawyer and political activist Kyle Morrow accused the now Alberta UCP leader of claiming his primary residence was the basement of his mother’s home at an assisted living facility in Calgary while living in and collecting secondary residence subsidies in Ottawa.

In the letter, Ontario MP and chair of the House of Commons’ Board of Internal Economy, Jennifer O’Connell, mentions a report on CTV News, in which the tenant of a neighbouring unit, when asked about Kenney, said: ” he never lived there.”

She says it raises grave concerns about whether Kenney’s arrangement breached the rules.

She says if an investigation finds he broke the rules, the board should make appropriate recommendations, or seek proper penalties or reimbursements from the current leader of Alberta’s United Conservative Party.

Kenney has said the choice of his Calgary residence was to care for his ailing mother and denies breaking any parliamentary rules.
