STARS gala gets boost from oil and gas industry

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — For the past 25 years, the oil and gas industry has been giving STARS Air Ambulance a significant boost.

The annual STARS and Spurs Gala goes this Saturday at the BMO Centre at Stampede Park, and they have a lofty goal.

Mark O’Byre with the Petroleum Services Association of Canada explains why they first got involved with the fundraiser.

“Well, first of all, the STARS organization and the vital service that they provide is an effective and needed service for our industry and community at large. And secondly, our own industry relies heavily on the services of STARS as many of our operations are on remote locations,” O’Byre said.

Tickets for the gala, featuring performances by Gord Bamford, Aaron Pritchett and George Canyon are sold out, but you can put your name on the waiting listing through the STARS and Spurs website.

Over the past two and a half decades, the event has raised more than $16-million for STARS. This year’s goal is more than $1.4 million.
