Woman hit by vehicle in NW Calgary

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A woman is in critical, potentially life-threatening condition after a collision in the NW.

It happened just after 7:00 a.m. at 26 Avenue and 5 Street NW.

A woman in her 40s was taken to Foothills Hospital after being struck by a pickup truck.

The truck was apparently driving south on 5th St and then turned onto 26th Ave and hit the woman.

Sgt Colin Foster with the traffic unit says the driver of the truck remained on scene.

“The vehicle remained at the scene. The driver remained at the scene. He is obviously assisting us with the inquiry,” he said. “We would like some independent witnesses who haven’t come forward to come forward as soon as possible.”

Foster noted the woman was walking her dog at the time of the crash, while she was taken to the hospital, officers looked after the animal. It will be okay.

Foster said speed, alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been factors in the collision.

“It obviously happened during the darkness hours. So we think that is going to be a concern for the investigators. We’re looking at the street lighting that appeared to be quite low as well.”

No word on any possible charges at this point.
