Edmonton police shoot and kill man while responding to domestic violence call

EDMONTON — Alberta’s police watchdog agency is investigating after Edmonton police shot and killed a man suspected of being involved in a violent domestic dispute.

Officers went to a home yesterday afternoon to investigate allegations that a 28-year-old woman had been assaulted over several days by a 26-year-old man she knew.

Police issued arrest warrants for the man, and several hours later surrounded the same home after a report a suspect had broken in.

Officers opened fire when the man emerged following a confrontation. Officers administered first-aid until EMS arrived but the man was declared dead at the scene. In late December both Calgary and Edmonton police were involved in fatal shootings. ASIRT is investigating all three incidents.
