Calgary company facing environmental charges

CALGARY (660 News) — Two environmental charges have been laid against Calgary company Agrium Inc. after a Jan. 2017 incident at the company’s Carseland nitrogen operations.
Agrium is accused of allowing a substance to be released that could damage the environment and then failing to report the leak in an appropriate amount of time.
The charges laid under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, include releasing or permitting the release into the environment of a substance that causes or may cause a significant adverse effect and failing to report a release upon learning of the release.

It is a major retail supplier of agricultural products and services that operates globally including in North America. The case heads to court Jan. 24, 2019.
