Elderly man evicted over medical marijuana hits another snag

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — A 78-year-old man who was evicted from federally subsidized housing because he uses medical marijuana for back pain says the conflicting state and federal marijuana rules that left him homeless are now threatening his medical care.
John Flickner, who uses a wheelchair, said Tuesday the Niagara Falls agency that co-ordinates his care, Complete Senior Care, suddenly dropped him.
An attorney for the agency, Jerry Solomon, says privacy laws prevent him from discussing individuals. But generally speaking, he says because medical marijuana is illegal under federal law, the agency can’t help clients access it without risking its federal funding.
Medical marijuana is legal in New York and Flickner has a prescription.
After news reports about his eviction, his landlord, LHP of Tennessee, reversed its decision and said Sunday it’s revisiting its policy.
