CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Employees at the Superstore Liquor Store on Heritage Meadows Way in Calgary put the brakes on an attempted ATM theft.

Around 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, Calgary Police say two to three men in a large white pickup put some chains around the ATM but were interrupted by staff before taking off with the machine.

Despite apparently being threatened by the thieves, one employee tried to unhook the chain.

The suspects reportedly had their faces covered and were armed with hammers.

The would-be thieves eventually gave up and took off in what’s believed to be a white Ford F-350.

Police don’t recommend those types of actions from employees and encourage anyone involved in similar incidents to remove themselves from harm’s way and call for help.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
