GRANDE PRAIRIE (660 NEWS) – We’re learning more about a police-involved shooting that unfolded early Tuesday morning in Grande Prairie.
According to the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), officers were following what they believed to be was a stolen GMC Sierra in the area of 99 Street and 141 Avenue when the truck came to a stop.
It then drove into a police car at a high rate of speed, and there was a confrontation between the two men inside and officers at the scene.
There was reportedly an exchange of gunfire before the suspects were taken into custody.
A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries to his left leg and shoulder. He’s believed to be the driver, while his 29-year-old passenger was taken into custody without incident.
The police watchdog adds two sawed-off long-barrelled firearms were also recovered from the scene.
No one else was injured.
ASIRT will look at the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting and whether police conduct was lawful.
