AIRDRIE (660 NEWS) – Communities in Canada can have some fun monikers such as the ‘City of Champions’, which used to be for Edmonton or the ‘Berry Capital’ for Abbostford, BC. One Alberta city though wants to be the ‘Healthiest Community’ in Canada.
“Most people that are in the system, they often don’t know where to go,” said Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown. “We’re developing technology that will actually direct that person to, whether it’s a local health professional, chiropractor, counselor, physio therapist, anything related to your personal health or well being, that technology will be available to our community.”
Mayor Brown said that claiming the distinction of ‘Canada’s Healthiest Community’ is one that residents would love to take pride in.
“I can’t imagine (this) not being a great opportunity for the people who live there and the people who are going to choose to live there. The sky’s the limit, it’s as high as we can go. It’s really setting that bar and then being able to share that with all the other communities across our great country.”
With that in mind, Smart Airdrie is hosting a big event Thursday night at the Town and Country Centre from 5 pm to 9 pm.
The evening includes a screening of the documentary ‘Falling Through the Cracks’, a panel discussion about the future of health care in Airdrie, and a TED Talk on the Smart Cities challenge proposal.
