Slovakia says it expels Russian spy working as diplomat

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia — Slovakia’s prime minister says his country has expelled a Russian diplomat after discovering he was a spy working under diplomatic cover.

Peter Pellegrini said Wednesday the diplomat’s activities were aimed against the interests of Slovakia and NATO.

The prime minister says the person was officially working at the military envoy’s section at the Russian embassy.

He says allies have been informed about the case. He declined to give further details.

Unlike many other European countries, Slovakia didn’t expel Russian diplomats in March in response to the poisoning of ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the English city of Salisbury. Britain blames Russia for that attack, a claim Moscow denies.
