Four-year budget plan could get go-ahead Friday

CALGARY (660NEWS) – Calgary’s four-year budget plan could get the rubber stamp from council Friday.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi said there are just a few things left to discuss.

“Probably fewer than 10 substantive amendments that have been proposed, we’ve dealt with many of them already but there’s about 10 left.”

The original draft showed tax increases of 3.5 per cent next year for homeowners, followed by 3 per cent hikes each of the next three years.

Small businesses outside the core will get hit much harder as they make up for the loss of value downtown due to empty office buildings, resulting in a 25 per cent hike.

Mayor Nenshi said he’ll be putting forward what he calls “the secret Nenshi capital plan” Friday as well.
