Fraser Institute shows Alberta’s investment attractiveness dropping

CALGARY (660NEWS) – A new study shows Alberta’s reputation as a place to invest in energy projects continues to fall.

The Fraser Institute surveyed petroleum-sector executives around the world and found the province ranked 43rd of 97 jurisdictions worldwide in attractiveness to invest, falling ten spots from last year and down from 14th overall in 2014.

Fraser Institute Senior Policy Analyst Ashley Stedman helped author the report and said there are a number of factors leading to the decline.

“More than 50 per cent of survey respondents this year say Alberta’s high taxes and more than 70 per cent sight Alberta’s costly red tape as deterrents to investment,” explained Stedmen.

For the first time in five years, no Canadian region ranked in the top 10, while Alberta also finished second last in Canada, with only B.C. seen as a less attractive place to invest.

Manitoba was the best, ranking 16th in the world.
