A whole new Dining Hall experience at the University of Calgary

CALGARY (660 NEWS) -The university of Calgary is doing its part to help prevent the Freshman 15.

It has launched a new student dining hall, called The Landing.

The concept by Aramark has been used in hundreds of colleges and universities in the United States, but it’s relatively new in Canada.

Executive Chef Paul Maniaci says unlike in the past, it’s not about cooking up big trays of easy to serve food.

“Every meal is done in smaller portions. There’s a bigger focus on more vegetables in your diet and less protein,” said Maniaci
“A lot of the protein will be balanced out with beans and chick peas etc.”

There are 9 stations, including a serve yourself salad bar, a breakfast bar, and meals that change daily.
“We have an entrée station, we have a pizza/pasta station, and then we have the vegan-vegetarian station. We also have gluten free pantry here.”

Students also get their say at The Landing, posting their likes and dislike on the Napkin-Talk board, and voting on social media.
