#NoCalgary2026 of the Olympic debate braves the cold to get the message out

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – As many Calgarians start to vote in the early in advanced polling, a few dedicated volunteers on the no side of the debate lined up across from Chinook Centre holding signs telling people to vote against hosting the Olympics.

Franco Terrazzano is with the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

He says it can be tough to fight against the yes side of the debate when it gets to spend millions of dollars campaigning.

“We are really facing a deep-pocketed yes side. Calgary 2026 is funded with millions of tax dollars and they are out there actively promoting the yes vote. So we need all of the volunteers that we can get, and fortunately, so many Calgarians are stepping up to the table and helping us out.”

He believes the economic promises from the 2026 Bid Corporation has been consistently overstated.

“We may not have Eddie the Eagle out here cheering us on, but we’ve got some great everyday Calgarians who took time out before going to their jobs to stand out here in the cold and hold some vote no posters up.”

Kathy Joy is one of the volunteers who spent time in the cold weather. She says this issue is not drawn along political lines but a simple decision for people to make about investments and costs.

“We don’t have a lot of the sunny days right now. We need to try and get there. We really need to think about how we are spending our money.”
