Advance polls for plebiscite open this week

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Advance polls for the Olympic plebiscite are running Tuesday and Wednesday.

Returning Officer Laura Kennedy says there will be 160 voting locations, as well as at hospitals.

Kennedy expects the voting process will be much smoother than last year’s municipal vote, when ballots ran out at some stations.

For the first time Elections Calgary will be using vote tabulators to speed up the ballot-counting process.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 at night.

Kennedy hopes to release the results about two hours later.

Voters must be 18, have lived in Alberta since May 13 of this year, and be a resident of Calgary on the day they vote.

One piece of I.D. must also be presented that proves your name and current address.
