Charities continue to see donations dwindle in Calgary

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — There’s a bleak outlook for some of Canada’s charities and their dwindling ability to raise money.

According to a study from Canada Helps, charitable funding continues to decline, but the demand for their services is growing.

There are numerous reasons, but on average, people are donating less to registered charities.

CEO Marina Glogovac says things like crowdfunding campaigns are also taking a bigger piece of the pie.

“Now it’s not necessarily about giving to a charity, it’s about giving to a family, a person, a person who was featured in a media story, it’s often about tragedy or injustice; those platforms have become huge,” said Glogovac.

Glogovac adds the trend suggests that some charitable organizations will struggle to survive as dollars dry up.
